By now you’ve probably heard about membership sites and how everyone on the Internet marketing scene is starting one. The reasons vary, but the main reason membership sites are so popular with online business owners is because they allow less work while creating more money for the owner. Basically, you do the work once and get paid over and over as new members sign up and get the content you’ve already created.

Maybe you’ve thought of starting your own membership website but aren’t quite sure what types of things make good material for this type of site. If so, you’re in luck as I’ve compiled a list of membership site ideas that are popular right now.

Training – This can be training on just about anything. From how to care for a pet to how to start a business, training is a hot topic on the Internet. People come to the web for one thing – information! If you can find a market willing to pay for the training, you’ve got yourself a great membership site topic.

Content – As I said before, the Internet is nicknamed the Information Super Highway for nothing. Website owners know their potential visitors and customers are looking for quality information on all kinds of subjects. If you can provide these business owners with quality, well researched information on the topics they are looking for, they’ll come running to buy from you.

Internet Marketing – Marketing online is a HUGE market and if you have the know how in even one small part of being a successful Internet marketer, whether it’s putting together websites, affiliate marketing or something else, the chances people will be interested are good.

Starting a Work from Home Business – This ties in somewhat with Internet marketing, but it can also be its own membership site idea as well. Everyday millions of people are searching for a way to run their own business from their home. If you can provide them with everything they need to do it, you’ll likely have more buyers than you could imagine.

Living a Less Stressed Life – We’re all busy, busy, busy. That’s no secret. There are tons of people who want tips, suggestions and even step-by-step instruction on how to live a less stressed and more enjoyable life. If you’re skilled in anything from organizing to scheduling, you’ve got a money maker on your hands with this idea.

No matter which avenue you choose to take with your membership site, the most important things to do – before ever creating your site – are to research your topic and determine who your target customer is. Once those things are in place and you’ve determined you do in fact have the knowledge and an interested market, the rest will go much smoother.

Creating a paid membership site is perhaps the best move an online business can make in these tumultuous economic times. Paid membership sites offer a constant flow of income that can grow overnight in some instances.

When setting up a paid membership site you are doing the work once, and then reap the monetary rewards over and over again for as long as you offer information to your members. The site can be set to be accessed monthly or by a yearly subscription. No matter what, money will be coming in all the time. Passive income possibly at it’s best.

Knowing how much to charge for your paid membership site is something that is as individual as your company is to the whole of the Internet. Only you can decide what the price should be. Since the start up of a site like this is relatively low, it’s safe to assume you can expect to make your initial outlay back rather quickly.
Although you may have ongoing expenses, for the most part, once you repay yourself for the start up costs, the remainder of what you make afterwards is profit.

The potential profits are unlimited once you set your price. Let’s say you want to start out by charging $19.99 a month to let people have access to your membership site. You have 100 people who have signed up. This will give you a guaranteed $1,999.00 a month. Now imagine if you charged more?

You are in control of how much your site makes. You control the cost of the membership as well as the content inside. Speaking of the content, you need to make sure the content is actually worth the money you expect to charge to have access to it. This is a common mistake most newcomers make, they charge way too much for way too little content.

People want to be sure they are getting more than their money’s worth for anything they purchase or subscribe too. If you do not offer content that is informative, updated and current, you have made a crucial mistake and subscribers will catch on fast. A great site will include quality content more than worth the price you charge for it. In turn you lead yourself to people spreading the word and business growing over and over again.

Before you jump into creating a membership site in your favorite niche, take a little time to make sure you have what it takes to do the job right. After all, if you’re going to take on a job this size, you want to make sure you can do it successfully!

Do You Know Your Market?

Ideally, if you’re developing a membership site, you’ve chosen a niche you have extensive knowledge or experience you can use as a storehouse of information for your content. If you’ve had a highly successfully business of your own or you have a great deal of education on a particular topic, you’re probably good to go. What do you do, however, if you aren’t an expert in your target market? It doesn’t mean you cannot go forward with your ideas. It does mean you need to ask yourself a few questions and prepare yourself for a little hard work.

Why have you chosen this market? If the only reason you’re moving into a certain niche is for the money, it might not be enough. Keep in mind you will need to continually add fresh, USABLE content to your site in order for your members to continue to pay their monthly fees. If you choose a market you have absolutely no interest in, you’ll have a tough time finding and creating fresh content. Things will go much easier for you if you choose a topic you enjoy and want to continue learning about in the future.

Do You Have the Technical Skills?

There are services you can hire to build your membership site and have all the standard features already set up for you, but you need to pay a fee for them. While a monthly fee may not be a problem once your membership fees start rolling in, it can be tough for some new businesses at the beginning. Some services provide a trial period of one to two months, which can help you get around that detail. However, you may decide to go it on your own to build your membership site. This option can save you some money, but either way you will need a few technical skills.

You will also need some software that makes it possible for you to create your site. Here are a few items to add to your checklist before you start building your site:

HTML or WYSIWYG Software and Skills – If you know HTML, you’re a step ahead of the game, as you can design your pages however you like them. You can find WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editors that allow you to bypass the HTML, but you won’t have quite the flexibility.

FTP Program – You need a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program so you can upload your pages to the server and store them there

Graphics – You need to know how to upload both graphics and text to your site.

If you don’t have the software you need, you can find most, if not all, of it free on the Internet. If you don’t have the skills, never fear. You can easily learn the things you need to know or you can hire someone to take care of the technical issues for you. Many times you can get your questions answered in forums or on social media sites like Twitter, so don’t be afraid to ask a few questions.

If you have these basic bases covered, you’re ready to get started creating your site. Keep in mind; you don’t need to be an expert to get started. Many Internet entrepreneurs learn as they go and create highly successful sites. Jump in and get started on your membership site today.

Membership sites are one of the hottest trends on the Internet today. Entrepreneurs in a wide range of specialties are learning how to leverage their time, information and clients into an ongoing income stream that keeps adding to their bank accounts month after month. If you’ve haven’t started your own memberships site yet, here are five good reasons to get started today.

1. Passive income beats working for a living every time. You can spend your time creating content for clients on an individual basis and then searching for new clients on a daily basis. If you are providing quality content at a reasonable rate, you will earn money this way. However, wouldn’t you rather do the work once and collect the paycheck on a regular basis? Of course you would- that only makes sense. Creating a membership site is the perfect way to generate passive income. With an autoresponder, you set up your content one time and then distribute it on an ongoing basis to your members without lifting a finger. Each month you upload that month’s content and through your membership site, every member has access to it.

2. You can add products to your membership site for additional income. You can add digital and physical products for sale to your members and create more sales without having to sell through a list or drum up new prospects. You already have all of your members’ information within the site, so making new sales is a piece of cake. Members will be inclined to purchase products at your recommendation, because you have already established a bond of trust and because they can do so at the click of a mouse.

3. Split the work and share the wealth. You can offer your members an income opportunity by creating an affiliate program for the site. Members can earn a percentage of the profits by recruiting new members to join. Because they are selling with the additional power of being satisfied customers, current members are a perfect choice to do your affiliate sales for you and spread the word about your membership site.

4. If you do it right, you really can work less and earn money while you sleep. We all hear it and secretly wish we could find it- that magical way to earn more and work less- ever since we were teased with the idea of a Four Hour Work Week. A membership site may be as close as you can get to truly passive income – and that can buy you the one thing you want more than money – time. Time to spend with your family, time to have some fun, time to work on dream projects. If you find the right niche and create a quality membership site, you can make a lot of money. If the price of membership is $40 and you have 100 members, that is $4000 dollars a month. If you have 1,000 members – it’s 40,000 a month. With $40,000 coming in every month, you really can afford to lie on a beach somewhere and work from your laptop.

5. Membership sites have a long life span. If you create a growing membership site, you’ve got a long-term stream of income – as long as you continue to provide quality content to your members. For more information about building a membership site with Wordpress click here
Once you’ve developed your membership site, it’s time to advertise it. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to do this – many for free, and some for fairly cheap.
Let’s take [...]

Once you’ve developed your membership site, it’s time to advertise it. If you don’t advertise, you’re going to have a hard time getting members because they won’t just happen upon your site. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to do this – many for free, and some for fairly cheap.

Let’s take a look at the advertising methods that are free to implement. These include using a signature file, biographies, contributions to article directories, and ezine promotions. All of these are easy to do.

A signature file is typically a short statement that is attached to the end of emails and in forum posts. A signature file gives information about your website(s) including links, so that interested people can visit your site and learn more about gaining membership.

Anytime you send an email out that’s related to the niche of your membership site (or make a post in a forum that’s relevant), make sure it has a signature file. For unrelated emails, you can also include a link to your new membership site – simply have your signature file say something like this:

John. A Doe, ABC Marketing Enterprises, domainname.com, other contact information.
Interested in XYZ123? Take a look at the new XYZ123 site!

Something similar to a signature file is a bio box that’s attached to the end of an article. Your bio box provides a bit of information about you, your expertise, and links to your website(s). These can be instrumental in bringing traffic your way.

Making contributions to article directories is an excellent way to get people to notice you and incite interest in your membership site. When you contribute well-written articles that offer value to your readers, they’ll learn to look to you as a respected expert.

This gives you a name in the business and puts some power behind the links in the biography that you include with your articles. Your reputation as an expert is going to encourage people to check out your membership site.

Another great way to advertise your membership site is through ezine promotions. You can either start your own ezine or online newsletter, or you can become a contributor to another marketer’s ezine. Either way, this gives you a perfect opportunity to remind readers that you have a membership site that they would like to explore.

Part of free advertising is offering an incentive for trying your membership site to everyone who makes his or her way to you. This could be a free sample, discounts, coupons or a sale price. Don’t forget this step, because it’s going to be instrumental in creating interest.

One way to advertise your site that does cost money, but that can be well worth your investment is PPC (pay-per-click) advertising. PPC gives you a perfect way to place enticing advertisements in places where your target audience will be looking for information.

You can set your own advertising budget with PPC, and you have complete control. While it’s important to learn to use PPC correctly, once you do that, it can be a great tool for bringing more traffic to your membership site.

Your membership site won’t advertise itself. You have to get out there and put some effort into this step. Fortunately, for your investment of time, energy and a possibly a bit of money, you’ll find that your traffic is increased as is your membership enrollment!

What is it that they say? If you don’t have a plan, then you plan to fail. The same can be said about starting a successful online business. In particular we are talking about membership sites.

Just about everyone has seen at least one membership site. It is a website where you have to be a paying member to gain access to the content and other materials that are showcased on the site. Members can pay anywhere from $9.99 to about $199.99 or more per month to be a part of the site.

Membership sites are money makers because they have a simple model that provides everything a person needs and they do it all on one spot. If you’ve ever searched the web for information then you know how frustrating it can be. Some of the content that you find is well-written and some is not. And, even if it is well-written it is not necessarily the truth.

Membership sites help people avoid all that and those people are willing to pay for it. You can capitalize on the new trend towards membership sites with a site of your own. But first, you need to have a plan.

What’s in a Plan?

Begin with some thorough research. Check out the blueprint for other membership sites. What are the basics of their offering? What is the fee? These are just two of the questions to ask yourself.
The perception with membership sites is that members will be getting more for less. For a low price each month, they will have access to bona fide information on a certain topic. And this information can take several forms. Here are just a few of the most common membership site ideas you’ll find online:

Private Label Rights

Internet Marketing Business Owner Training

Mentoring for Online Business Owners

Fitness

One-on-One Coaching

The expectation from your members will be that the quality of your content will be a cut above the others on the Internet. That means keeping your finger on the pulse of the trends in your area of expertise. And, yes, if you know enough about a topic to see a need for a membership site then you are a self-proclaimed expert.

A fully rounded plan will include ways to set your membership site apart from the others. Maybe you offer a new service or a new twist on an existing service. Before you can put that in writing, however, be sure that you can do it. Technical stuff like setting up websites and all of the things that go on behind the scenes are like Greek to many people. But, if you can find someone who can do it for you, then you are in business.

Don’t forget about security. This is a private membership site and access to certain areas can only be gained through a password. Maintaining that privilege against gatecrashers is crucial.

Always have a plan before beginning any business venture. Do your homework to come up with a list of services or information that you can offer to a certain group willing to pay for it.

Membership sites offer something exclusive, something above and beyond what’s available to the mainstream. Membership sites teach things that can’t be learned from just searching for information on the web, and offer things that can’t be found with a free search.

People are willing to pay for something good that isn’t available to just everyone. So memberships sites are a great way to get paid for providing the world with excellent, specialized content, information and knowledge.

But even if you have a fantastic idea for a membership site, you can’t just create it and rely on its fabulousness to keep current members and gain new ones. This is the issue at hand – membership sites are plagued by stagnating sign-ups.

Often people sign up for a membership site only to leave the site a month or two later, so site owners are left scrambling to find new members to replace those that have wandered off.

While you should never be discouraged from starting a good membership site, you do need to be aware of the inherent risks, and the answers to the question of how to get new members and retain them which will result in a growing site, and your growing income.

We know that people are willing to pay for good online content, and it’s a hot way to generate revenue. The key is to provide continual excellent content that is completely exclusive. Depending upon the type of site, you can offer articles, reports, eBooks, software, forums, videos and even games to your paying members.

The issue of losing members occurs when there either just isn’t enough new “stuff” offered on a regular basis to keep them interested, or they feel the membership fee is too high for the value they’re getting from the site.

The problem of gathering new members occurs when there simply isn’t enough to entice them to join up. There has to be a really compelling reason to get out that credit card and cough up the initial membership fee to gain access to the exclusive treasures that wait inside the site.

So here’s the bottom line: If you have a great idea for a membership site, go for it! But you have to commit yourself to creating a website that makes information and content available to your members that is truly above and beyond the things that they can find elsewhere, possibly for less money or for free.

Keep your content fresh and be sure to offer something new and exciting on a regular basis – it has to make your members feel that they are getting their money’s worth and make them glad every time they pay that membership fee.

When you’re working to attract new members, you have to make sure that the landing page(s) that you’re using to attract potential members give them a very, good reason for signing up and giving you their money.

You might want to offer a free taste of what they have to look forward to by signing up, discounts, or free samples. Do what it takes to get them in the door, but be sure that once they’ve joined your membership site, you’re giving them what you promised – plenty of exclusive content that they can use!
